30 Days, 300 Ideas

Thanks for participating in the 30 Days, 300 Ideas campaign! The idea submission period has ended.
Stay tuned for future announcements on how we will celebrate the opening of Canada’s longest
runway and to find out who’s the lucky winner of $300 YYC Bucks!

7.5 million cubic metres of earth will be moved to build the runway.

The new runway will be the equivalent length of 140 blue whales.

The new runway is 14,000 feet long and 200 feet wide.

1 million square metres of concrete will be used to pave the new runway and taxiways.

The length of the new runway will be equivalent to the distance from the Calgary Tower to Chinook Centre.

Over 5,000 LED lights will be used for the runway and taxiways.

It will require 500,000 cubic metres of gravel to build the new runway.

It would take 7,800 cowboys hats to cover the length of the 14,000 foot runway!

Did you know that a 300 foot air traffic control tower was built to accommodate YYC’s expanded airfield? It is the tallest free-standing ATC tower in Canada.

The runway development project consists of a new runway, aircraft parking apron, taxiways and other related infrastructure!

It will take 704,458,518 coffee cups full of gravel to build the new runway!

At 14,000 feet, the new runway will be the longest runway in Canada!

Construction of the new runway will be complete in spring 2014.

The new runway will be more than 38 football fields in length!

Did you know? YYC serves more than 70 destinations and the new runway will allow YYC to continue to grow that network.
